Our Reconciling Commitment
Our United Methodist denomination is facing a difficult season. The actions taken by the Special General Conference in St. Louis are incompatible with our values. We will continue to be a place of welcome for all people, including the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT+) members of our community.
Your pastors will not abide by the decisions made by our denomination in St. Louis. The leadership of the Western Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church has made it clear that the decisions reached in St. Louis will not be enforced in the west.
We hope you saw our Easter invitation online and in the Register Guard.
We are in a season now where it is more tricky than it should be, to invite people to the First United Methodist Church of Eugene.
Our global denomination made some really terrible decisions back in February. They tried to tighten the screws on churches and clergy that love lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender plus people.
If you have spent any time here, we hope we have earned some trust - that no matter what - this church - is going to welcome, and love, and affirm, and celebrate all people - and no ridiculous decision in St. Louis is going to change that.
